On Thursday “Empire” star Jussie Smollett returned to court to enter a plea of “not guilty” to the 16 counts of disorderly conduct that he received last week for allegedly lying to police about a hate crime. He is now scheduled to return to court on April 17th.

According to CBS Chicago, Cook County Judge Steven Watkins granted Jussie permission to travel to New York and California to consult with his attorney’s as long as he gives a notice 48 hours in advance. Other than that he is not allowed to leave the state of Ilinois while he is out on bail.

Last month, he was charged with felony disorderly conduct by Chicago police for allegedly falsifying the claims.

As we previously reported, Jussie claimed that two masked men reportedly poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck while reportedly yelling racial and homophobic slurs at him.

Jussie even detailed what happened during the attack on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts. There has been a fair share of people who have publicly shared that they don’t believe Jussie’s accounts. However, he has claimed his innocence of staging the attack the entire time.

We’ll continue to keep you updated.
